FAITH IN ACTION
How Families can put their Faith in Action
Parents have the opportunity to set real examples of Faith in Action. Help your children learn what matters to them beyond themselves. Then join with them in serving together where their interests are. This will encourage a faith that lasts. Through acts of faith and serving they will see how God is at work in the world and how God can use them to help spread his Good News.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock."
Matthew 7:24
Children's Spiritual Gifts
Help your children recognize their unique God-given gifts so they can begin using them to serve at church and in the greater community. They will be more willing to serve when they are using talents they already have. Click above for a Gifts Survey specifically for kids by Sparkhouse that will help guide your children to areas they may be best fitted to serve. Submit the form to the church office or put in the Faith Formation Director's mailbox.
Serving as a Family
There are many opportunities to serve together as a family at church. Young children may be more willing to help out with a new responsibility if they are with Mom and Dad. Think about the opportunities below and click any you may be interested in trying out or learning more about. We will connect you to the person who can help you with any instructions and get you signed up.
Serve as an Acolyte
The word acolyte comes from the Greek word akolouthos. It means one who attends or assists a leader. In Lutheran churches, acolytes assist the pastor by lighting candles, collecting offering plates and communion cups, and other duties as necessary. They are vital participants in worship. At FULC children can begin being an acolyte in the third or fourth grade, depending on the individual. The child will first be given training outside of worship time and then during worship with an experienced acolyte. Click above if your child is interested in trying this and which service you typically attend.
